How To Do Spring Cleaning!
Blog

As the weather starts getting warmer, we open our windows to let the sun and warm breezes in. A winter’s worth of cobwebs in the corners and dust along the baseboards catch the light, and we realize… it's time for spring cleaning.

As much as we might dread it, the yearly ritual of spring cleaning is upon us. If you’re someone who doesn’t know where to begin, never fear! Here at Booksio, we’re also pulling out the dusters, mops, and brushes, and getting down to business. We’ve put together a couple of helpful tips and tricks to make the job a breeze, so you can spend the rest of spring enjoying the warm weather and a clean living space.

Gather round for some housekeeping hot takes:

Listen to a trusted expert

9781328508256It’s always helpful to call in a trusted expert for guidance. There’s a reason they’re experts! Marie Kondo gained fame a few years back for encouraging people to declutter their home and “spark joy.” (Though, after the birth of her third child, Kondo also claimed to have “kinda given up” on being so tidy.) You can also call on Martha Stewart for house cleaning wisdom that stretches back decades.

Consider a radical perspective

9781501173240Why not learn what other cultures have to say about how to clean? You already know about Marie Kondo, but have you heard of Swedish death cleaning? In Sweden there is a kind of decluttering called döstädning, meaning “death” and städning meaning “cleaning.” Artist Margareta Magnusson, with Scandinavian humor and wisdom, instructs readers to embrace minimalism and make cleaning an uplifting process, rather than an oppressive one.

Get organized with a list and plan

9781689411806Once you’ve gotten all the advice and thought about different perspectives, it’s time to plan. Make a list of your necessary chores and projects, and think about how and when you’re going to get it done. And stick to it! Our Emma Hemmond 2-book bundle packs a lot of organizing power with to-do lists, calendars, and strategies.

Set your a time limit

9781508564966Don’t let spring cleaning turn into summer projects. If you keep saying “I’ll get to it eventually,” pretty soon it will be August, and back to school will be upon you and your family. Don’t do it! Look at your calendar and block out the time needed to make spring cleaning a reality. Mark out times on your calendar right now - we’ll wait.

Make it a team effort

9780307730671Who said you have to do this alone? Spring cleaning is a great opportunity to bring the whole family together and adjust attitudes toward work and responsibility while also accomplishing the ultimate task of cleaning your house! Talk to your children and family members about the to-do list and give them some choices.

Spring cleaning is a chore, but it doesn’t have to be a burden! Plus, if you get one of these guides in an ebook format and read it on the Booksio app, it’s one less book to put on the shelf!
